Important information regarding Catalytic Convertors.
The Department for Transport have announced the implementation of the proposed Type Approval legislation (103R) will be effective as of the 13th August 2009.
What is 103R?
R103 states that any vehicle registered after 01.03.2001 needing a replacement Catalytic Convertor must have a type approved unit fitted. If a non Type Approved Cat is supplied or fitted to a vehicle registered after this date it will be deemed an offence and a fine of up to £5000 can be imposed.
A type approved cat can be identified with a stamp that must be clearly visible.
Although the implementation of the legislation is the 13th August, there will be a period of education until the 13th November. After this date the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) will be focusing on enforcing the regulation.
As a result of the new legislation, Fast Parts Wales Ltd. will shortly start the process of filtering out any non Type Approved Cats where the application states it must, and replacing them with the Type Approved. Unfortunately, while this is good for the environment it is not as good for our pockets as the new Cats will be unavoidably more expensive due to the increased precious metals used.
